Going to America - part 5 - Quilts

Today you are going to learn how to make quilts! It is very simple.
You will need:
1. Two different patterns or colors of fabric
2. Batting
3. Fabric for the lining
4. Pins, needle and thread, scissors, ruler, and a pencil

Step 1. Cut out your quilt squares, they should be 4 1/2" by 4 1/2" (duh, it's a square :P )
ten squares of each color fabric. (You are using the material from number 1)

Step 2. Line up your squares in whatever order you like, as long as it is four by five squares.

Step 3. Sew them into strips. (I used a sewing machine, that is why they are a little uneven)

Step 4. Now sew those strips together...
...until you have this.

Step 5. Lay it out on the fabric for lining, cut it with a 2" border.

Step 6. Do the same with the batting, but with a 1/2" to 1" border.

Step 7. Stack them. First the lining, then the batting, then the squares.

Step 8. fold the lining so it covers the batting...

...then fold it again so it covers the edge of the fabric. Fasten with a pin, and repeat all the way around.

Step 9. Sew where the pins are. You will have to sew by hand, because a sewing machine won't work for this. When your finished sewing, it should look like this:

Step 10. Last step. Now for the quilting. You can sew lines across, or a design, I am doing a flower on each square.

I am not finished with that step yet, I will give an update when I do.
bye, have fun crafting!
