The ask a reader tag

story-tag(2)

Hey everyone!
So, vbs went like this;
Olive: thrived
Ivy: hung in the back and survived

And camp went like this this;
Olive: tried to survive
Ivy: thrived

My social battery was MAXED OUT in like 3 days, but a stomach bug gave me an excuse to spend half a day alone in my dorm, so that gave me the energy to finish the week running (why would i run) at a swift walk. 😁
And vbs was super fun, but I'll talk about that and camp later, because today I'm doing the Ask a Reader Tag by the lovely Charis!
(the image above is hers, isn't it beautiful?)

And so we go!

1. What sparked your love for reading?
 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know. I've been devouring books for as long as I can remember.

2. Where do you get your books?
The library, or I ask for them for my birthday and Christmas, or if there's any good ones left on the $5 a box day at the library book sale.

3. Where do you read?
I prefer this big love seat we have, it's a used to be white with faded pink rose clusters on it. When I look at it through other peoples eyes, it's hideous, but its soo comfy. 😊

4. When do you read?
WHENEVER.
I start it in the morning when I get up, (or the afternoon) and I don't stop reading it until bedtime, (10:00pm) or if it's really suspenseful or I'm almost done, I'll turn on my small light and either finish it, or read until 11:15-11:30 because them I'm too tired and I have to stop.

Hey, I get up at 6:00am.

5. What genres do you read?
Fantasy, fantasy, and fantasy. But I'll read some historical fiction, and I've started checking out an occasional sci-fi from the library. I prefer my sci-fi as movies/tv shows, but it can make some good books. (check out The Last Day on Mars! such beautiful writing😍)

6. What are your favorite childhood reads?
I remember eating up the American Girl books, as well as Percy Jackson, and I loved listening to my mom read Narnia, though I didn't like reading it myself.

7. What are your favorite books?
You asked for it....
(in no particular order)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Keeper of the lost cities, Eragon, the Rangers apprentice, Homeless bird, The Missing, Pendragon,  The hunger games, Harry Potter, the Hobbit, Lord of the rings, Wings of fire, Fablehaven, the Star of Kazan, Journey to the river sea, A Wrinkle in time, Where the mountain meets the moon, Shadows and Secrets, and The Last Day on Mars are all I can think of right now. πŸ˜›

8. Do you read fast or slow?
Fast. I mean, I tried to be slow when I was re-reading the Eragon series recently, but I still finished the biggest in 2 days, lol.

9. Do you set reading goals? What are they?
Nope.

10. How do you track your reads?
I don't. Why bother?

11. Do you binge-read?
Does binge-reading mean reading a book in a day, than reading its sequel the next day, and then the next book the next day, and so on? Because if yes, than I binge-read as much as possible.

12. Do you fall in love with characters?
Ohhh yes. Very much yes. πŸ˜„

13. Do you buddy read?
Not really. (but then, I have a very shaky definition of what 'buddy reading' is)

14. Do you re-read?
Yes! A very large portion of my reading is re-reads. πŸ™‚

15. What's the best thing about being a reader?
Hmm. I think the best part is being able to get to know these people, these characters, to get a peek into their worlds and their minds, and go on their adventures with them. And even when they're labeled 'fiction' it's not fiction to me.
....which my siblings use in their arguments on why I should be sent to the loony bin. *sigh* I need my back up. Why do my fellow book dragons live so far away? My siblings are too numerous and too fast to eat without back up. πŸ˜‚

I shall tag anyone who thinks 'book dragon' fits us much better than 'book worm'
🐲
For all of you tagged, here are the questions:

1. What sparked your love for reading?
2. Where do you get your books?
3. Where do you read?
4. When do you read?
5. What genres do you read?
6. What are your favorite childhood reads?
7. What are your favorite books?
8. Do you read fast or slow?
9. Do you set reading goals? What are they?
10. How do you track your reads?
11. Do you binge-read?
12. Do you fall in love with characters?
13. Do you buddy read?
14. Do you re-read?
15. What's the best thing about being a reader?

Have a great day, I love ya'll!
Bye,

In which I, Kit, relate to you everything that has happened.

Hello, peeps! Kit here, come sit down on this comfortable chaise thing, just don't sit on mum, She's reading Harry Potter. Actually, go ahead and sit on her anyway, she probably won't notice.
Wait, did I say mum??? Harry potter must be affecting me. 😳
Besides that! We are currently back in August, in a rented house, South Carolina, the day before the eclipse, whose date I can't be bothered to remember. We came with my mom's Oma, and two of Oma's friends; miss Jade and miss Julia. Miss Jade has seven grandchildren, and she told us about lego land, I really want to go! Though if we do go, mom better bring me. Miss Julia is a favorite of Daisy, Wakko, and Bubbles, she pushes them on the swing, and listens to their long rambly stories. And Oma is Oma, so nice. πŸ™‚
(When mama graduates high school, Oma might take her on a trip! She better bring me then!)

Its a very nice house, living room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, a deck, and this little screened-in porch.

This picture didn't turn out how I wanted it to be.
Oh, and do you like my outfit? I got it for my birthday, which we celebrated right before we left. And actually, mom read That Harry potter book she's reading (it's The half-blood prince) on the drive here, then when we got here, she explored and then started reading it again, which she's doing now. My mom is very weird. She said she needed to be able to remember all the questions that are going to be answered in the last one. She also says its really good, but whatever they find out in the next one, she's never forgiving Snape.

ooooh, this photo turned out much better!

There was an old car shed-thing in the back, it had a broken fridge in it, and this empty window that look out to this red crepe myrtle.

Focus on me....

And on the plant...
hmmm, not quite.

Should I make one of these my new profile photo?
πŸ’™

Here is a lovely view of half the back yard. The front yard was really tiny and messy, but the back is big and nice- in care and looks. πŸ™‚

There were some cute pink flowers growing along the fence on the other side of the yard. 🌼

Look! I discovered a secret staircase under the deck!

ALL HAIL THE GREAT EXPLORER KIT!!!
Then I go hot, and went back inside. I relaxed, and read Harry Potter over mama's shoulder. πŸ˜›

Then it was time for bed, and I changed, brushed my teeth, and grabbed my book to read before going to sleep. And yes, that is Unfogging the future. I have studying to do.

I wanted the chaise, but mom made me a bed on the floor with a few of the many pillows. There were like 8 of them! (I also got mom's throw blanket. It was very comfortable.)

The next day was the day the actual eclipse happened. Mama had finished her book, and the whole family spent most of the day out, so I settled down on a pile of pillows and watched out of mama's eyes. Did anybody tell you that we dolls can do that? We may not have told you, but it comes in handy when you go to see a movie that we want to see, but you didn't bring us with you. 😑 Ahem. They went to a cute little deli, and used an adorable old coke machine that sold cokes for a dime, came back for a quick lunch, and then went to the playground down the street. Mama doesn't like coke, so I got in an argument with a pair of impertinent legos over who got to drink the coke. Whatever they tell you, know that I won. (no, no, I would never exaggerate)
Anyway.
So I watched them walk to the playground, and miss Julia taught them how to play 'crocodile' where one person has their eyes closed, and they have to find everybody else. Everybody else can only stay on the playground equipment, and they get in corners, hang off, and climb on the outside to try to stay out of reach of the croc. The croc has their eyes shut, but they can go on the equipment and the ground. Grand-dad, (Mom's dad) made everything harder, like knocking on the bars where someone was standing, so then the croc would find them. Or picking up some of the littles when the croc was getting close, and carrying them over to a different part of the playground. But besides that, it was really fun. πŸ™‚

Ivy and Thorin were jumping off the swings, not very high, but comparing landings and distance when mom was making commentary, acting as if they were in the Olympics. Then while the rest of the kids were checking out their new solar eclipse glasses, mama tried jumping off the swing. It wasn't that bad, but the swing had barely been moving so she tried again, going a little higher this time. Also not bad, but almost fell over. She got more confident and tried again, going at a nice comfortable pace. She landed---aaaaaand fell over backwards, getting sand in her pockets. How does Ivy do it? She usually looks like she's about to fall forwards, and Thorin lands like a sailor without his sea legs, but he stays upright. Well, mom tried it again, and this time when she landed one leg slid forward while the other slid back, and she ended up on one knee, with a hand on the ground, and the other in a dramatic flare. I was quite impressed, while mama stayed in that position for a moment, trying to figure out how she did that.
So mom, Thorin and Ivy kept practicing their jumping, pausing frequently to check on the moon's progress. It looked like a small puddle of melted cheese with a bite taken out of it.

But when it got dark was when it got really cool!
So all this time, you can't see a difference unless you have the glasses on. But then in the last thirty seconds before the sun is completely covered, it looks a little dimmer, like just before sunset. And you lay back and look at the sun though your glasses, and you can SEE the moon moving over the last sliver. And your glasses go dark so you pull them off and lo and behold! Its as dark as night, the street lights have turned on, the temperature has gone down, and there's a big black hole in the sky, ringed with a glow of light. Its SO cool. And you get to admire it for about two minutes, and then this little speck of light shows up in the corner, and it spreads a line of light cutting the dark circle in half, and it looks like the death star. πŸ˜› And you're taking glances through your glasses at the re-appearing sun, but you're mostly just watching everything get brighter around you, its like watching the sunrise that you didn't get to watch this morning because you slept in. Oh wait, that was mom who slept in, not me.
But boy, was it awesome.
It was also awesome getting to eves drop on my mom's thoughts, even if they were mostly about sewing. Well, earlier they were about ninja, which was fun, but then she started thinking about sewing ninja suits, and she started thinking about patterns, and seams, and where could she buy black linen. I mean, come on. πŸ˜‘
Anyways, I've talked for quite a bit, ad nothing interesting happened after that, (We went home the next day) and I'm hungry. See you later!

Well peeps, lets chat it up! Did you see the eclipse? Have you every played
crocodile? Which of those photos should be my profile? How did you
like The half-blood prince? Or have you not read it yet?
How cool are your landings when you jump off the swing?

weekend trip part 1

Hellooooo!
We went on a weekend trip to Oma's about a week ago, and I took a lot of photos...but not any of the ones I had planned on taking. I had planned on taking Kit down to the sand and taking a photo shoot of her in her new tail, but that didn't happen. So, here are some pictures and some of my thoughts on the trip. πŸ™‚

I had managed to claim the spare bed, (no floor for me) and I woke up very early, (habits, people, habits) and Kit was staring out the window watching the sun.
It was quite picturesque.

At 7 am I tip-toed down stairs to the kitchen, and a little later I took these photos.
I think it was later because I don't think the sun was quite that high at 7 am.

Then Kit discovered the flowers and lost interest in the view. (at least for a bit)

puuuuuuuurple
πŸ’œ

hmm. I was hoping this would turn out better.

Oma has these splendid lace curtains, they make excellent wedding veils.

Kit ran off, and this little guy had ventured out and found his way down here. I didn't notice until he started using the force to open the door. πŸ˜›
How'd he lose him arm again? you might ask, if you even noticed that it was missing, and that he was supposed to lose it in attack of the clones. Well, it was my birthday, I don't remember which one, I had just gotten him out of the packaging and he was being passed from sibling to sibling, because if you've got multiple siblings, you know what I'm talking about. So he got handed to Wakko, and quicker than a blink, his arm came off and skittered under the tv cupboard. We never found it. 😐

I like this picture. He looks thoughtful. πŸ™‚
(but don't tell him that, he might get mad😜)

He looks rather critical in this photo. πŸ˜„

Then I got distracted by some ducks.
Also a call for a light breakfast.
I got cocoa puffs. Hence the following conversation.
Are these all for me?
No.
But I'm starving!
No, you're not. But you can have a bite.
A bite?!?
One of MY sized bites.
That's much better.

I liked this photo so much I posted it on instagram. πŸ“·πŸ˜›

So that was the first half, and sometime following will be the second. I'm also going on another weekend trip, and later this month is mine and Kit's birthdays. You won't get a Kit party post though, because we're going somewhere like, the day after my birthday. (#rude) But if I don't melt from the heat, (why are we going south? why? WHY?) I should have fun. And Kit will explain everything we did in a post when we get back. πŸ™‚
But until then,

Do you like lots of weekend vacations, or a few long ones?
Don't those lace curtains look fun? Do you like purple flowers?
Have you ever taken pictures of action figures?
And most importantly:
Do you like cocoa puffs? O.O

The sunshine blogger award

Hey girls!
So, apparently I got nominated at least three times. If you read this post, and yours isn't up there, I apologize

The rules:
.Thank the person who nominated you
.Answer 11 questions and ask 11 questions
.Nominate 11 people
.Let the nominees know

(The rules are the same for all, but I will nominate people after I answer all the questions, because I don't think I even know 33 bloggers. πŸ˜† )

First up: Stuffie adventures! Thanks! πŸ™‚

1. What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you?
ummmmmm.....I don't really remember, which is weird. You think you'd remember something scary?? hmm. Well, it doesn't seem scary now, but when I was little I really really wanted to go on this water slide, even though I could barely swim. Dad said he would catch me at the bottom, as well as Ivy. Thorin had wanted to go as well, but he was too small, the life guard said he couldn't. So Ivy went down, then I got on. First I was prepared, but I didn't reach the end...didn't reach the end...then just as I relaxed, I whipped around a curve and hit the water. I was startled, had no breath in reserve, water in my nose, water in my eyes, I couldn't see, couldn't find the surface, and where was dad? I ended up banging into the wall, and didn't drown, so it turned out fine. But it was scary then. πŸ˜›

2. Best compliment you received?
I was beta reading Madi's novel, Loyalty, and she left a really sweet comment about how she loved reading my comments and suggestions, they were helpful and I kept making her laugh, and to please never stop being me. It made me feel so good. πŸ™‚

Assuming they can speak modern English? hmm...maybe Amelia Earhart.  Or maybe Charlotte Bronte, and ask her what in the world was she thinking with Jane Eyre. (Talk about a confusing book!)

6. Do you feel like a leader or a follower?
Depends. I'm an oldest child, so with my siblings I'm a leader. (When they listen, that is) I'm also a leader with my friends, but I'm shy, so around other people I'm satisfied with being a follower.

7. If you could choose your own nickname, what would it be?
Something cool and fandom related. πŸ˜†
